Villa Bogdano is an old-vine pioneer, crafting structured, elegant, and surprisingly ageworthy wines from the unheralded region of Lison di Portogruaro, in the north of Venezia. This Lison Classico, from vineyards planted in 1943 and certified organic since 1993, is made from 100% Friulano grown on predominantly clay soils with limestone in the deeper layer. At the outset, 48 hours of cryo-maceration, soft pressing, and controlled fermentation at 18 °C serve to combine pure fruit character with finesse. Maturation was 8 months on the fine lees in vitrified concrete tanks, with regular bâtonnage every 10 days, and a further 3 months in bottle. The nose offers delicate aromas of white flower blossom, wild herbs, and citrus peel, supported by fruity aromas of golden plum, apricot, and peach. The fresh, sapid palate has a taut mineral streak, and there is a delectable almondy finish.
