Intro
It would be unfair to favour one wine in the TerraPura range over another given each one’s distinctive character and regionality but we should be allowed a little indulgence for this Carmenere which, after all, showcases Chile’s flagship and somewhat less ubiquitous variety. Like TerraPura’s Cabernets, the Carmenere also hails from the prestigious Colchagua Valley where the wine reached optimal ripening with perfect concentration and balance. The result is a wine with its own personality, showing off the complexity that Carmenere can offer.
Tasting Note
A bit more wild and earthy, this Carmenere is a complex ensemble of leather and tobacco, entangled in fresh eucalypt and garrigue. The palate is full of juicy blueberry fruit, black pepper and spice with a long chocolatey finish. There is a lot going on but the wine is fresh and surprisingly elegant.
Food Pairing
While perhaps not an every-day dish, this would work perfectly as a treat paired with a rabbit stew where it would cut through the richness of the meat and enhance those earthy flavours. Failing access to a rabbit, with its layered flavours and aromas the wine could stand up to milder curries or butter chicken making it very versatile across different cuisines.
